Alappuzha Located around 53 kilometers from Cochin, the town is celebrated for its backwaters which connect Cochin and Kumarakom to the North. Besides backwaters and the sea, Alleppey is also famous for its ageless temples, serpentine canals draining into the ocean, colorful lagoons, rice paddies, and a 150-year old lighthouse.

The world famous Ambalapuzha Palpayasam and Ambalapuzha Velakali are associated with this temple. Here is a rare deity standing in the concept of Parthasarathy with whip in right hand and panchajanya in left hand. Thousands come to the temple to see Ambalapuzha Unnikannanta. This temple has witnessed many events artistically, culturally and historically. Ashtamirohini Mahotsav is also celebrated here in the month of Chingamasa. Unniappam is offered after the incarnation of the Lord. Unniappam here is as special as Palpayasam.
Marari Beach in Mararikulam is one of the beautiful beaches in Kerala. Marari beach can be reached by crossing a distance of 11 km from Alappuzha city. It is a resort beach. The main attraction here are the long coconut groves facing the sea. Since it is relatively less crowded beach, tourists can enjoy sunset views well. Mararikulam is also a good place to taste food. Mararikulam is easily accessible by road and rail. It is a place to visit in all weathers. But the best time to visit is winter.
A small island called Pathiramanal located in Vembanad backwater is home to many migratory birds. Kumarakam Bird Sanctuary and Pathiramanal is a paradise for bird watchers. It is also a popular tourist destination. The Eau region is rich in natural beauty and attracts tourists. Pathiramanal is located east of Kaipuram jetty and west of Kumarakam. The beautiful island will attract anyone on a backwater trip. Enjoying the jungle through the stone-paved walkways and enjoying the beauty of the view standing alongside the mangroves and wild vines, I walked into the greenery. Pathiramanal Island can only be reached by boat. This is a perfect place for backwater travelers to relax and enjoy the lush green beauty.
Kayamkulam is an important among the Kayalora towns in Kerala. Krishnapuram Palace is a major tourist attraction in Kayamkulam. After 47 km from Alappuzha, you can reach Krishnapuram Palace. The palace is 3.5 km from Kayamkulam town. Today the palace is under the protection of the State Archeology Department. There is also a museum with valuable artefacts. The present palace was built by Anizham Thirunal Marthandavarma, the ruler of Travancore in the 18th century. The palace is built in the Kerala style of architecture. Artifacts found from different parts of the country are kept here. 'Gajendramoksham', the largest mural ever found in Kerala, is housed in this palace. Beautiful gardens and murals await visitors. Entry is from 9.30 am to 4.30 pm. No entry on Mondays and National Public Holidays.
